Family portrait on Sullivan's Island

It's that time of year again.  School is almost over, the weather is getting perfect and you and your family are planning a trip to the coast.  Perhaps you are getting together for the first time in several years, or you make an annual trip to one of our fabulous beaches.  Whichever the case, you should consider having your family portraits made while you are here.  We have miles and miles of the perfect backdrop for your family.

Historic Charleston has three beach towns within 20 minutes of downtown. There are many others which are a bit further away, but I will talk about the closest three here. First, there is the Isle of Palms. Back in 1989, IOP was wiped out by hurricane Hugo. That storm destroyed a large percentage of the homes on the barrier island. It turns out that the storm, while horrible, held a blessing as well. It is illegal for professional photographers to shoot on the beach. read more

The homes were rebuilt.  Not only were they rebuilt, they were replaced by mansion-sized beach houses that can sleep 25+ people.  Homes that would have before been described as shacks by many standards are now three and four level houses with elevators, rooftop decks and much more.  It is spectacular indeed.

The second area that is a tad bit closer to downtown is Sullivan's Island, a wonderful small town with a huge history.  On the island is Ft. Moultrie which once defended Charleston from the British in the first battle of the Revolutionary War.  Sullivan's Island features a working lighthouse that helps guide thousands of container and cruise ships into our harbour each year.

Last, there is Folly Beach which is a great "beach bum" type of town.  Laid back and filled with surfers, Folly offers some of the only unspoiled beaches in this part of the world.  It is like stepping back into time when beach going was about sand and surf, not about extravagance.  Folly has a lighthouse as well which is currently being repaired.

So strap on your flip-flops and head down to our part of the country.  While you are here, hire a Charleston Beach Photographer.  You won't be dissapointed.
